The minor ecdysteroids from Ajuga turkestanica.
INTRODUCTION Ajuga turkestanica is a plant used in traditional medicine for its high ecdysteroid content, including the presence of the particularly active turkesterone, which possess efficient anabolic activity. OBJECTIVES To isolate and identify minor ecdysteroids present in a semi-purified plant fraction containing ca. 70% turkesterone. MATERIAL AND METHODS Multi-step preparative HPLC (c...
متن کاملAjuga turkestanica increases Notch and Wnt signaling in aged skeletal muscle.
BACKGROUND The declining myogenic potential of aged skeletal muscle is multifactorial. Insufficient satellite cell activity is one factor in this process. Notch and Wnt signaling are involved in various biological processes including orchestrating satellite cell activity within skeletal muscle. These pathways become dysfunctional during the aging process and may contribute to the poor skeletal ...
متن کاملEcdysteroids from the Antarctic tunicate Synoicum adareanum.
Five new ecdysteroids, hyousterones A-D (2-5) and abeohyousterone (6), have been isolated from the Antarctic tunicate Synoicum adareanum along with the known ecdysteroid diaulusterol B (1). Hyousterones B (3) and D (5) are unusual ecdysteroids in bearing the 14beta-hydroxyl group, and abeohyousterone incorporates the 13(14-->8) abeo steroid skeleton, reflecting a rearrangement of the steroid C/...
متن کاملNovel Ecdysteroids from Serratula wolffii
Two new and one known ecdysteroids were identified in the methanolic extract of the roots of Serratula wolffii. The new compounds isolated were ponasterone A-22-apioside (1) and 3-epi-shidasterone (3), together with the known 3-epi-22-deoxy-20-hydroxyecdysone (2). The structures of compounds 1-3 were determined by extensive spectroscopic techniques, including one- and two-dimensional NMR methods.

26-Hydroxyecdysone, which is the major free recoverable ecdysteroid of older age groups of embryonated eggs of the tobacco hornworm was also the major component in 4- to 18-hour-old embryonated eggs. The other 3 beta-ecdysteroids, ecdysone, 20-hydroxyecdysone, and 20,26-dihydroxy-ecdysone, were also present and accounted for all the molting hormone activity; 26-hydroxyecdysone was devoid of mol...
